Linux Experience
I have spent the last few years using Linux as my full time operating system. I have used Debian, Slackware, Red Hat (before Fedora core), Gentoo and now primarily Ubuntu. Gentoo I found very useful to try and understand how things work at a fundamental level. Ubuntu I like as it has very good hardware support and it is also stable and powerful, as it is based on Debian.
Networking
I have enjoyed setting up multiple home networks. This has included CUPS server for shared printers, NFS for sharing directories, SAMBA for sharing directories with Windows based systems. Shortly, I plan to have a play around with NIS, so that I can venture into larger networks…
Palm PDA
Synchronising a Palm PDA should be a simple task! Indeed it is, unfortunately I did not realise that I needed to press the hotsync button on the PDA/cradle before actually telling the software to syncronise! This could well be a simple things other users have found.
Also, on the PDA front I managed to get internet access on my PDA through my PC. This was setting up a PPP connection across the serial link, and then creating an iptables rule to route the internet activity. See this website for information!
I also managed to get the internet on my PDA using bluetooth. It was quite simple when copying instructions from the Ubuntu wiki.
